The Environment Secretary has made available a £40 million grant scheme for investment in farm technology and equipment.

A 40% grant is available from the Rural Payments Agency for investments in new technology with a minimum spend of £87,500.

What is the grant for?

The grants are to improve farm productivity through;

•Use of Robotic / Automated Equipment which can undertake the normal husbandry of livestock.

•Slurry Management Equipment to apply, monitor, control and record slurry/digestate – including umbilical systems, deep/shallow injection, trailing shoe, dribble bars, slurry storage bags, slurry tankers.

Who is the grant for?

Farmers including livestock, dairy, arable and horticultural sectors can apply.

A fund of approx. £8.5 million has been made available to support small dairy farmers in England.
Who can apply?
You can apply for this scheme if BOTH of the following apply:

  • You had an annual milk production up to 1 million litres during the period 1 April 2015 to 31 March 2016
  • You are still active in cows’ milk production

Documents

You will be asked to provide the following information on your
application:

  • The total volume of milk delivered to first purchasers (your milk
    buyer) during 1 April 2015 to 31 March 2016 (annual/ monthly production statements).
  • Details of your purchaser in April 2017

Payments
You must be registered on Rural Payments before RPA can make a payment to you. Payments will aim to be made by the end of July 2017.
Payments will be capped at 500,000 litres. The rate of payment will be calculated once all applications have been received. The RPA may need to check the information you provide before payment is made.

The Hedgerows and Boundaries Grant is now open and available for applications until 28th April 2017.

The maximum £5,000 Grant is available for restoring drystone walls, hedgerows, stone-faced banks and earth banks.

You will not be eligible to apply if your business holds an existing Environmental Stewardship (e.g. ELS/UELS), Countryside Stewardship or English Woodland Grant Scheme that will be live on the 31st July 2017 or if any part of the parcel is in a SSSI.

You can only apply if you have full control of the land (and field boundary) for a minimum of two years from the start of the agreement, or if consent is obtained from the landlord in the form of a countersignature.

Entry into the Hedgerows and Boundaries Grant is competitive and only the highest scoring applications will be awarded and an agreement. However, every application will be assessed and scored so every application is worth submitting.
